Programs

History

The economics major at Hefei University of Technology, formerly known as trade economics, was renamed as an economics major in 1999 and started enrolling students at the Xuancheng campus in 2012. “Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program” (Central Track) was approved in 2021. In the same year, the “3+1+1” program with Clark University was opened to students in the Economics major.At present, we are promoting the expansion of the joint educational program for economics majors with the Australian National University and the University of Warsaw in Poland. The graduates of this major have worked in the government, universities and research institutes, public institutions, state-owned enterprises, and other sectors.


Features

In line with the requirements of the era of artificial intelligence, digital economy, and new economy, with “Economic analysis and digital governance” as the characteristic direction, supported by the first-class undergraduate major construction program of economics, and guided by the needs of the national economic development strategy, we develop high-quality professionals in the new liberal arts who are able to skillfully apply modern economic analysis tools and digital economic theories and technologies. All these efforts are made to provide economic analysis, forecasting, and governance for the government, enterprises, and public institutions.


Faculty

There are 25 full-time faculty members in the Department of Economics and 5 full-time faculty members in the Department of Economics and Trade at Xuancheng Campus, nearly all faculty members hold doctoral degrees, over 73% have senior professional titles, and over 70% are under 45 years old. Over 40% have interdisciplinary backgrounds, and nearly 30% have overseas experience, including study or visits to prestigious universities, such as the University of California, Berkeley, Cornell University, Brandeis University, Clark University, Hong Kong Baptist University. In recent years, the Department of Economics has presided over 15 national projects, such as key projects of the National Social Science Foundation and more than 10 provincial and ministerial projects. It has also won five provincial and ministerial scientific research awards and leaders’ affirmative instructions, and published more than 50 papers in key journals such as Economic Research, Management World, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Environmental and Resource Economics, and other key journals.
